The Living Faith Fellowship Perspective on Discipleship

There are lots of Christian “influencers” discussing the topic of discipleship today. There are lots of well-known, well-intentioned pastors developing tools and branding their own forms of discipleship, but ultimately, at the heart of true discipleship is the Great Commission.

Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.

Jesus Christ spent his life investing himself into the lives of his followers, developing disciples John 17:4. Based upon his model and that of the Apostle Paul, we recognize that Christians are called to invest, with great intention, into the lives of individual believers.

Discipleship is not a class or curriculum. Discipleship is not simply a program but the process of an established believer sharing Christian life with a younger believer 2 Tim 2:2.

Jesus modeled this for us during his three and a half year public ministry. He reached the lost, taught them the scriptures by word and deed, and mentored them to understand and accomplish the Great Commission.

What this means for Living Faith Fellowship…

Biblical Discipleship is the heartbeat of Living Faith Fellowship and it informs everything we do. It is our responsibility to reproduce spiritual life by investing the Word of God into the life of another person. There is no higher calling, there is no better way to spend your life!

For this reason, our team of pastors has spent years developing and refining simple teaching materials that exemplify the most foundational doctrines of our faith - we call it Biblical Discipleship. Living Faith Fellowship church members use Biblical Discipleship to invest in the lives of their members and establish them in four basic biblical goals:

  1. Established in Worship

  2. Established in the Word of God

  3. Established in the Local Church

  4. Established in Ministry

As mentors invest the Word of God in their disciples, the hope is that these goals form a foundation that impacts the trajectory of their life. In turn, the disciple will grow to invest the same things in the lives of others, thus multiplying the work of the ministry.

How can I get involved in Biblical Discipleship?

For years Living Faith leadership teams have been taking trips all over the world to teach pastors and churches a biblical philosophy of discipleship. Nothing excites us more than helping churches train and mobilize their members to take ownership of their faith. For us this includes bringing the philosophy of Biblical Discipleship and the strategic materials to a local congregation and helping it come alive with practical ways for mature members to teach and mentor others, empowering them to live the Great Commission.
